12 October 2005

Yesterday mummy was strange. Every time I put her hands in my mouth she would yelp ‘Ouch’ very loud then sulk and leave me in the room by myself. I was so confuse. I did not bite her yet but maybe she was too delicate for my sharp little teeth. She did that many times. I did not like to be alone and I did not like to see her sulk or hurt. I tried to be gentle with her. She seemed to be pleased that I understood how delicate she was. I started to understand what things that mummy did not like me to do. If I did something and she yelped and left the room, I knew that must be something that I had done and mummy did not like but sometimes it was too difficult for my little brain like mine to figure it out what I had done wrong. So she had to yelp and leave the room a few times before I could figure it out. Every time she left the room, I was very upset. I did not move and tried to focus on what I did wrong.

She also seems to understand that if she left the room, I got upset and I stopped what I was doing. So she tried to use this technique with me not only for no bite but also no jump, no scratch, etc. She could only use this technique with me when we were in the dinning room where she could leave me and knowing that I could not damage anything. She could not yet use this technique in the lounge where there were many things that I would like to do without her supervision i.e. jumping up the sofa, exploring behind the sofa, etc.

It was raining all day yesterday. The rain put me off about going to the toilet but I have no choice because my toilet is outside. Huh!…Mummy? May I use the toilet upstairs? She said only if I knew how to flush. Bleh!!

This morning, still raining, mummy tried to put down the newspaper on the floor for me in the porch just in case I need out and she does not know, so I can use the newspaper in the porch as my toilet. Since she could not keep the dinning room door open because I would rather go upstairs than the porch, so she brought some newspaper into the dinning room. I like to scratch and eat newspaper. This is the way dogs consume news, you know? Haha, I was kidding. When I tried to scratch and bite newspaper, mummy yelped and left the room leaving me with the irresistible newspaper. But mummy was upset, it was more important to me than the irresistible newspaper. I waited there without touching the newspaper until she came back. She gave me some treats after she came back. Since the newspaper was so irresistible I went for it again. This time mummy yelped and left the room immediately. Ah!!! Mummy did not like me to bite the newspaper. I backed off from the newspaper and made a guilty look on my face waiting for her return. She came back with some treats as usual and praised me. She thanked me for being a clever boy and understood what she tried to deliver. It seems like we now know how to communicate. I knew if she liked what I did she would click and give me treat, if she did not like she would yelp and leave the room. Hah!…What a clever boy I am!!! Now it’s time for my morning nap. Ngap…ngap…ngap…

In the afternoon mummy taught me new trick. It was ‘Roll Over’. I had no idea when she said Roll Over. What the heck!… All I wanted was the treat in her hand, so I sat, no? I lied down, no? I kept lying down and staying still…no? Oh!! Mummy I want a treat!!!! Gimme a treat!!!..I started to be annoyed that I did not get any treat because I did all the tricks I knew but I could not satisfy her. Then she told me to lie down and she tried to manually roll me over and then she clicked and gave me treat. She did that for 4-5 times. Ah!!..that’s it!!! I think I am kind of known what ‘Roll Over’ means now. When she tried to test me by saying Roll Over, I did it and she jumped and laughed and clicked and gave me treat. She praised me and kept saying ‘Pepper, you are a very clever boy’. I thought I made her proud. She tried it for about 2-3 times and I could do it and get my treats. But because it is new to me, I do not fully understand. My little brain needs more time to learn. Sometimes she said ‘Roll Over’ but I couldn’t figure it out what she meant. I think I need more treats to help my brain. Hehe!!!

Focus...on training.. Still focus... I'm tired of training and need more treats to help my brain grows stronger

Do you know?

If you want to bark about anything please do. I am a good listener because I have two big floppy ears and a huge heart. It won't cost you anything but I will earn a biscuit for every bark you make.
